Positive or negative impact on children's mental health?

Writing Prompt and Photo assignment
Does social media have a negative or positive impact on  children’s mental health? Be specific and cite examples in your response.

I think social media is more negative than positive to children's mental health but it all really depends. Its all depending on children's  behavior once with a device. In this generation, technology is what keeps people going. Whether to keep track of the news or to be reminded of what to do in a special event. Our lives revolve around our devices. Our goal is to try to keep it balanced but we don't. We do the opposite of that. Everything we do, is based on our phones. There are iPhones, iPods, samsung, galaxy notes etc. All these devices help us with so much, and its clearly amazing how much information such small devices can hold and give information to us! We learn so much from technology and it really does benefit us in many ways as well as it being bad for us. Despite the bad things would you really ever be able to live without your phones?
Now, lets think deeply into the negatives of our devices. Do you remember the last time you sat in the living room with your family and had no devices or technology whatsoever to ruin "family time"? I certainly do not remember at all! Especially since there's a tv in my house and since they're always too tired to do anything, all they do after work is sit on the couch and watch their shows. Nowadays, family time is sitting in different rooms of the house and having our eyes glued onto our phones, and why? whats so bad about being with the family once in a while. Most teens are usually locked in their room doing their stuff or because they think they're too cool for family. Like my older siblings, when i was younger all they did was be locked in their room only coming out to use the washroom or to eat. They would always be on their phones talking to people l and never had time for the family. Thats why having a computer, tv, phone and much more in their room does not help at all who would leave all that just to talk to people you see every day?
Another negative thing that our phones bring to us is health. We are so lazy nowadays eating and eating but not doing exercise to burn that all off. I honestly give props to the people that commit to exercise and don't give up so easily because it is so hard to have time for our health since we think 30 minutes daily will make us skip so much of the news feed on Facebook or Instagram or even Snapchat; any social media. All we do is rely on our phones for everything whether its from Bruce Jenner's new decision or watching the latest episode. The closest thing that makes us even consider eating healthier and loosing weight is seeing other people on our news feed being in shape and thats just not even worth it because it just brings our self esteem lower and we end up doing nothing about it. We are getting so obsessed that we don't even want to admit that using our devices irresponsibly is not helping us at all yet we continue doing it. Nowadays kids are getting their first device at 2 years of age, seriously? I got my iPod at 13 years of age and older people say they got theirs at 16 or older. Kids are getting them too young and at such a young age they begin getting trapped in the "Device world" too early in their lives and
thats not good for their growth. They are supposed to grow active not lazy that will cause obesity. They have to run,  jump, be hyper, eat healthy, in order to properly grow. Thats why children are getting older faster because they think they want to be independent when they are clearly babies and don't know what independent is. Next thing we know, babies are going to be born with their devices in their hands texting other babies.
My last negative would be Distraction. Our phones are the blame of our distractions- No let me rephrase that; We allow our phones to distract us.We are always distracted! Doing homework- Distracted, doing chores- Distracted, cleaning house- distracted, going over to friends house- Distracted, someone dying- Distracted, its bed time- Distracted. We are supposed to do things at our 100% best and thats the exact opposite of what we do. We start caring less about our obligations that we forget that we have a life to attend to. The new way people talk with each other is sitting in the same room but texting it all out, yeah thats so much cooler! no. This is  ending up so bad that even our parents are doing it. Adults can't even control themselves either. And thats what makes me wonder if they can't control themselves, why criticize us? Anyways, every time I go out with my family to someones house, first thing they do is ask each other for their names on WhatApp, and they end up coming to us (the younger ones) asking how to work their phones. Then as soon as we get home they start texting people and when I tell them they are overdoing their usage of their phones, I get my iPod taken away. You see how its not only affecting children but adults too! Imagine us in the future, making food four our kids by going on an app. No communication whatsoever. No people walking their dogs since they can virtually do it. Its all just sad and scary!
But don't get me wrong. Our phones also have so many positives for example they help us research without us having to go all the way to the library. We can talk to people or family members that we don't live close to, we get reminded of certain things; birthdays, shopping list anything! Basically having a gadget with us makes our lives so much easier it helps us find loopholes to things. Is it awesome? YES does it benefit our health? NO. We should get off our lazy butts and do something that will actually benefit us or at least something more active. I really do think social media does negatively affect children's mental health but its not because of technology, its because of the immature usage of the device, if we made good choices with it it wouldn't affect us at all. Before we controlled our devices, now, they control us.

Grade 1 Science Fair

       GRADE 1 STRUCTURE

  SCIENCE FAIR

                                                         APRIL 29, 2015

This spectacular event taken place on Wednesday April 29, 2015 in the Beaumonde Heights JMS large gym, has left many teachers as well as students extremely fascinated of how creative these Grade 1 students! "I am extremely proud of these students, they're amount of creativity and energy towards this project was outstanding!" -One of the teachers of the grade 1 students.

The gym was packed with wonderful, neat scientific displays behind so much knowledge. At the grade 1 Science Fair, the little ones had created buildings, bridges, houses, etc! There was so much creativity and colours involved in this scientific event, the atmosphere was so knowledgeable!
It was just an amazing and well put together fair that I'm sure everyone had enjoyed!
Some of the questions that were beings asked were "What is the purpose of your structure?, Is your structure strong and/or stable? How do you know?" etc. It was just great to see how much passion these students carry inside of them while explaining what they have built!

This awesome structure is a windmill made with a type of coloured tissue paper and straws and what makes that thin straw so stable is the base where the straw is gone through.

The student that built this bridge used screws to put it together- to make it stronger.

"What fasteners did you use to hold your structure together" asked Reporter Reshmi Verma.
Emma replied "well, I used glue, popsicle sticks, strings and paper. all I did was glue popsicle sticks together and I rolled paper as poles and used the strings to attach the poles together.." I am comprehensively  fascinated of how these small bodies have such intelligent  brains it is amazing!!

Its marvelous how these children combine their creativity with their projects and thats how their work is so great. All these wonderful scientific displays have so much behind it and is extremely thought provoking. All of them definitely left me thinking "how?! how have they built such great things???" They really are very smart. I'm thinking they could help me with my projects too, haha.
Anyways, that grade 1 science fair was spectacular and quite fun. Such awesome structures!- as you can see.

Writing Assignment

 WRITING CHALLENGE:
“Look at the garden”

We had a writing challenge, which had sentences, or places where our story had to take place and every four minutes something knew would be added, and while writing, we had to put that new thing in. Everything that is underlined is what had to be added to our story.

“Look at the garden!” My mother gasps as her eyes are filled with shock “What have you two done?!” The beautiful roses, lilies, cactuses, vegetables- our whole garden was trashed! And the worst part of all was that my mom thought I was there and also allowed those two kids ruin our backyard. I shouldn’t have volunteered to babysit these two hurricane-like hooligans! My dad was supposed to take care of them while my mom was working, but since they had forgotten because my dads going to Vancouver; and I was free that day, I guess I thought it was ok to babysit them for a couple of hours, I mean it wouldn’t kill me would it? My dad likes traveling so much that every time he comes back, I get new souvenirs- I already have different souvenirs from around the world! It was great since he always has a new story to tell, but I did wish I could’ve gone with him at least this one time but oh well I guess hopefully next time maybe, possibly, it could happen.
Earlier that day, we had dropped my dad at the train station to say goodbye. He was leaving for a week and of course we wee all going to miss him; I had to drop him off and take my siblings (at tis time my mom was at work, she couldn’t take that busy day off) as waving bye- while the train was leaving, I felt tears rushing down my face, I know ill see him in a week but he usually leaves and I want to have time with him which I barely get to. Anyways, as the train was leaving, I wiped the tears off my face and just kept waving at my dad, taking my sibling back to the car,
“Hey what time will I be able to call daddy?” asks my sister
“When he arrives there in around a day,” I reply
“Why do I have to wait so long? I want to talk to him NOW!”
“Calm down he’s in a train not in a rocket, he wont be there so soon, it’ll be over before you know it.”
“Fine! But I’m talking to him first”
“NO, I am!” says my brother
“Stop fighting or else none of you will be able to talk to him at all.”
Going back home, we pass by the CN tower since we live so far from the train station, and the tower is mid-way to my home so,
“Look guys this is the tallest tower in all of Canada”
“Whoa I can’t even see the top.” Says my sister
“It’s probably touching the clouds,” says my brother
“Maybe.” I say. When we get home, I got busy doing homework, and I regrettably leave my brother and sister alone until I hear a shriek and rush downstairs to see what happened. It turns out it was my mom.
“I couldn’t find a copy of the keys so I had to go through the back and look at this! I’ve been working too hard today look at what you’ve done! Katherine how irresponsible are you?”
“I’m sorry mom I had to do homework, I fed them and gave them work to do, and by the way when dad was getting ready, he found the key under the bed. Here.”

“Thanks, Katherine, Christian, and Emily all three of you will clean this whole mess. By the time I get back I expect this all to be clean!” and that’s how my whole ‘busy’ Friday went.

Our class made a Poetry Soiree and each of us had to make three poems. One of our choice, one about our history projects, and one about our novel study so this is the poem I made of my choice.

What is the purpose of life?

Many people do wonder
To be educated get a job and wife without doing anything too blunder
At first as a baby it's completely amazing
I mean all you gotta do Is eat sleep or poo
Everyone just sits There in front of you glazing
And keep fighting to carry you is what they do
Now As a kid your finally understanding more
but you're becoming more and more curious
So far nothing at all is a bore
Sadly still not knowing what's real or what's spurious
Now As a teen everything is the hardest right now
You just started to figure out life
Being r exposed to so much, with limits but how?
Any instant decision can later on be at strife
As an adult at this point life has just passed you by
You try to figure out how it went by so fast
You look back and try not to cry
But you wish you weren't in the present just in the past
So what is the purpose of living?
Just to grow up find someone and get a job?
No there's so much more to it than just living
It may be too simple but do not be a slob
Even if your life is filled with problems, find the positive of it and just learn
Don't ever try ending it keep fighting
Trust me itll get better and very delighting
Embrace your life and yourself and all will get better by itself
